Sporting Antiques warmly welcomes you to our website. We have over 30 years of experience in the handling, restoration and sale of antique and vintage shotguns, firearms and militaria. We are a small family concern based in Mayfield near Ashbourne, Derbyshire

DOUBLE CAPE HAMMER GUN/RIFLE IN 16 BORE AND .577 / .450 MARTINI-HENRY BY M.J.MAULLIN, QUEENSTOWN SOUTH AFRICA .
A combination 28 inch .Right barrel 16 Bore smooth shot/ball .. Left .577/.450 Martini-henry rifled. Non-Ejector . Original proof marks.
A very impressive range and sight toprib with 1 fixed back V sight ,7 folding leaf sight's with Platinum markers and divisions marked on the rib up the barrel in Gold 1 to 12 Inches
Jones Underlever opening .Barlock action . Rifle barrel has a selectable push forward set trigger if desired.
The Nicely figured Walnut pistol grip stock measures a comfortable 14 1/4 inches .Clean chequering .The pistol grip finishes with a well carved head of a Lion . Steel Heel and Toe plates.
The Walnut forend has a cross bolt fastening to the barrel .Inlay with Horn and well chequered.
The Barrel weighs in at 6 pounds . The Guns overall weight is 10 pounds .
A section 2 shotgun certificate is required for this gun.

What we do
We are a registered firearms dealer . Sporting Antiques always aims to provide advice and 'good old fashioned' polite service whilst meeting your needs to the best of our ability.

We are pleased to work with both private individuals and trade clients and are able to offer the following services.



  • Overhaul and repair of vintage firearms and militaria.

  • Traditional 'slow brown' damascus barrel rebrowning starting from £40

  • Vintage 'blue-black' steel barrel reblueing also from £40
  • Gunstock finishing, repair and sale of walnut gunstock blanks



    For those interested in using our services

    From experience we have learnt that a simple online price list is not suitable for the specialized commissioned work that we perform.

  • When taking on a new commission we like to ask our clients to describe the item concerned (ideally supplemented with photographs) and state details regarding the extent to which repair and/or restoration work should be undertaken.

  • We will then present our client with a provisional quotation and upon receipt of acceptance will ask that the item be forwarded to us.

  • Upon receipt of the item, we will then proceed to inspect the item concerned and provide additional comment if required. We will also provide you with a turnaround time and firm price for the commission.

    We strive to provide a high quality / cost consicious service. Our customers are our most valued asset and satisfying them is our primary aim. We love happy customers !!
